Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival Enters 4th Year
The 4th Annual Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival will be held on June 5, 2010 from 11 am to 8 pm on Grant Avenue in historic downtown Vandergrift. The festival will feature regional artists exhibiting their works in booths along Grant Avenue, children's activities, food, live music, and wine tasting. Artists are encouraged to apply by March 31, 2010. Applications can be found on the festival website at www.vandergriftfinearts.com or by contacting the Vandergrift Improvement Program office at 724-567-5286.
The Paint a Palette Program, which has been a unique feature of the arts festival in the past, will continue in 2010 with artists painting scenes on wooden palettes. These palettes will line the streets of Vandergrift's business district from June through October attracting art enthusiasts and shoppers.
Another public art feature will be debuting in this year's festival. Using the Lewiston, NY High School Chalk Walk Competition as its inspiration, Vandergrift's festival will include a Chalk Walk Competition. Groups of three students each from Southwestern Pennsylvania high schools will be given an 8 ft x 10 ft space within which to create sidewalk chalk masterpieces according to this year’s festival theme, Rolling Hills to Winding Streets. The Chalk Walk Competition will begin at 12 pm on June 5th. Students will have until 4 pm to complete their murals, at which point a panel of three professional artists will judge them. There will also be a People’s Choice Award.
The Vandergrift Fine Arts Festival is sponsored by the Vandergrift Improvement Program and is supported in part by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, a state agency funded by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the National Endowment for the arts, a federal agency.
